Do you know that woman who seems to have it all together? The one with a great job and a cute kid, and a loving husband? If you’re nodding, don’t stop. She might be single.
Not every single man knows how to deal with a single mom. There are so many reasons why dating a single mom is not easy, but it’s all worth it in the end.
Single moms have their own lives, which means that they are occupied most of the time. Being a single mom does not just mean that she needs someone to help take care of her child/children, date them and find an activity for them. She also has certain responsibilities at home.
So if you think dating a single mom is easy because you can spend your time lazing around while she takes care of everything else under the sun, then you better think twice!
She wants someone to treat as an equal, as a partner.
Dating a single mom doesn’t mean that you should be her husband or father of the child/children involved. Women do not look for single fathers just because they’re already dads! She’s looking for a boyfriend, first and foremost. Just treat all the members of the family equally, and everything will be just fine.
No matter what happens between you and your date, her children will always come first in anything and everything. If she needs to agree with you about something that involves them, then it has to be done.
When you date a single mom, expect that there will always be someone else who can take your place easily. There are nights when she will not come home because of meetings with their son’s teacher or attending PTA meetings.
Also, if plans have been made between both of you and she has to cancel it due to child-related issues, don’t get mad at her. She is doing what any parent would do in that situation. Of course, this also means that if ever both of you are free on the same night, then she’s all yours!
Don’t get offended if she doesn’t want to talk about her past relationships. With a history of being cheated on and disappointed, it’s normal for single mothers not to have many dating experiences anymore.
If you’re really interested in her, respect that even if you disagree with it, try to work things out as much as possible.
There is a ring of insecurity when it comes to new guys, especially those who are single too! They tend to think the worst of men because they know what their ex-boyfriends did behind their backs, so she has this kind of mindset most times.
So don’t worry if your date tends to keep a distance from you at first because she is just exercising caution.
A single mom cannot just give her all when it comes to a relationship because she has a family that needs to be taken care of too! So if ever she’s asking for your help, then don’t hesitate and lend a hand because nobody knows when they could need your assistance again in the future.
Remember this quote: “What goes around comes around.” You will never know when you’ll need someone else’s help, so don’t turn down their requests.
It won’t really hurt if you spend a day or two without hearing from your single mom. She has many things going on in her life right now, so give her space, and she will come back to you when everything has been settled down.
It’s better to have open communication with each other rather than being secretive about certain issues. So instead of keeping silent about where she goes, what she does, or who she spends time with, talk about it!
There is nothing wrong with discussing how much time should be spent for both of you. As long as both parties understand it, there won’t ever be any problems again!
The first few dates don’t have to be really romantic and hot, right? So instead of going to a fancy restaurant or the movies on your first date, try spending time getting to know her more as a friend.
It will also help both of you understand each other better than just trying out how it is like being together in private because, trust us, the chemistry won’t happen overnight! Everyone has different personalities, so even if you find her very attractive and all that jazz, still give friendship a chance first.
If ever she’s introducing you to her children already, that’s a big sign that she trusts you and is ready to see the future with you.
Just make sure that you really care for her and be there whenever she needs someone to lean on. With these things in mind, having a single mom as your girlfriend could turn out well as long as you don’t try taking things too fast because this kind of lifestyle is quite different from those who are dating without any other responsibilities besides them!
