How to Balance Self-Care and Work Life as a Single Mom

It’s so easy to get stuck in the day-to-day of being a single parent, and forgetting that we need to take time for ourselves. We can’t just be super mom without taking care of ourselves too! Check out this blog post on how to balance self-care and work life as a single mom.

Balancing work and self-care is not easy.  Responsibilities preventing singles mothers from taking time for themselves, it’s difficult to find even a few minutes of personal time when there is always something that needs doing at home. No matter how many items on his or her ‘to do’ list are crossed off, the next day brings another set of tasks just waiting to be done. There is never enough time for a single mother to get all these things done in addition to caring for him/herself {children} because chores and duties seem never ending with laundry needing washing, household duties needing attending to, groceries needing buying etc..

Tip:

What can we do to take care of ourselves? It’s hard. Let me tell you about a few things I’ve been doing.    One is that I’m trying to get more…

Sleep!

Not just by getting eight hours, but also by planning better so that I have time for a nap or going to bed earlier than usual when possible. Another thing is that on days where it feels like there’s no end in sight (like today), I try and find something small and pleasant for myself- like making tea, or playing with my son, or taking a bath. Lastly, even if our days are filled with tasks without breaks in between them- we need to make sure we’re eating well and exercising! These tips might seem small, however, they really have made a huge difference in my life and routine!

The list also includes some simple things like taking deep breaths, drinking water (or any other drink), and doing something creative with your kids! These small changes will allow you to feel refreshed and ready for tomorrow!

Set goals

Write down what you want to achieve in each area of life and set milestones for yourself that will help keep you on track.

Get up a little earlier

Try getting up a bit earlier than usual so you can start your day with a few minutes of quiet contemplation. 1) Spend 15 minutes writing in your journal or sketching whatever comes into your mind. 2) Drink one cup of green tea without any sweetener before bed to help promote relaxation and sleep quality. 3) Take this time alone at night before going to bed and give yourself permission not only for self-care but to prepare for the next day peacefully.

Prioritize

Spend time with your kids first before doing anything else so they know their needs are important as well. They’ll feel more loved when they’re receiving attention, support and encouragement from parents who are present in their lives every day instead of merely “hanging around”.

 Practice yoga at home

Yoga brings about peace of mind and body which can make any situation more manageable! You can find many beginner videos on youtube to get a kickstart before trying in person.

This sums up my list on how I manage my work and life balance as a single parent! Some days seem longer than the others but in the end it’s always worth it!
